Sustainability
Reunion Coffee Roasters is a vocal advocate of coffee's ability to improve the well-being of the planet and those who work within the supply chain. Sustainability has become a central tenet of our business model, both in our work abroad and at home.
We place the same care in our sustainability initiatives as we do in the quality of our coffee.
Through this work, we have redefined our business model, improved the quality of our coffee, helped countless producers and farm workers, and given our employees and customers new reasons to feel proud of the roaster they have chosen to work with.
We are planting 1,136,007 trees
Through veritree, we are working towards a sustainable future by restoring critical landscapes which help the planet thrive. veritree and their partners work around the world to ensure that each tree is verified, and that every dollar has a tangible impact.
Over the years, we have worked with dozens of farms and co-ops on development projects; supported certifiers promoting social, environmental, and financial development; and donated time and money to NGO's around the globe.
We are particularly proud of our efforts with the Rainforest Alliance and have worked dilligently to increase our volume of certified coffee through them, up to 65% of total coffee purchased.
We have also worked directly with our farming partners to encourage and facilitate RA certification of their farms, giving them the confidence they need to invest in the process.
We are proud to be Canada's largest Bullfrogpowered coffee roaster with 100% green electricity. Bullfrog Power has been a terrific partner for us in our efforts to become the most sustainable coffee roaster in North America.
Colombia Las Hermosas Project
This partnership was formed in 2005 with Cafisur and RGC Coffee (in conjunction with Federacion Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia). To date over $205,300 has been generated from the sale of our Colombia Las Hermosas coffee (that's over 45,000 bags!).
This money goes directly into a community development fund to improve the local standard of living and create opportunities in the farming communities of Planadas, Rioblanco and Chaparrel. Some of the projects delivered in this fund include improving sanitation and water purification systems in schools, setting up school computer labs and construction a new cupping lab to analyze coffee quality.
This coffee is helping to improve infrastructure and community development in Colombia coffee-farming communities.
Grounds for Health Partnership
Since 2010, our Grounds for Health partnership has raised over $41,000.00 generated through the sale of Bullet Espresso.
With each purchase of Bullet a portion of the funds are directed to Grounds for Health to help support the work they are doing to raise awareness about and find solutions to treat cervical cancer. To date, the organization has screened over 114,800 and treated over 9,350 women for cervical cancer.
This coffee is saving women's lives in Ethiopia and Kenya.
Native Energy Partnership
We first started working with Native Energy - a fellow B Corporation - on the Help Build Honduras Coffee Growers Clean Water project in 2017.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of our Privateer coffee were converted to carbon offsets that support this project, which uses centuries-old slow sand technology to remove up to 99% of waterborne pathogens. To date, this partnership has provided over 4,490,000 litres of clean drinking water.
**Exciting things coming with this partnership - STAY TUNED**
This coffee provides clean water to coffee growers in Honduras.
